Playoff Forecast for Little Rock
November 30, 2012

The weather will be unseasonably warm for the Saturday playoff games in Little Rock on Saturday.  Breezy south winds and clouds will be common throughout the morning into the afternoon.  Some of the low clouds could produce some drizzle; however, we are not expecting showers.

Temperatures by Saturday evening will drop into the 50s, so make sure to wear some layers!  Closer to home we are expecting highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s on Saturday with the stratus breaking during the afternoon.

Feeling Like Spring
November 30, 2012

If you like the warm weather you’re in luck because we’re in for a nice and mild weekend.  Southerly winds will help to bring in some mild and moist air over the next few days.  Temperatures will reach the low to mid 70s running about 15 to 20 degrees above normal.

Wind Speeds

Along with a warm highs we’ll have some more moisture in the region Saturday.  That will give a slight chance for an isolated shower, but most of you will stay dry.  Better rain chances arrive Monday night as a disturbance will move across the area.

Have a great weekend!

Clear tonight, warming and clouding up tomorrow…
November 29, 2012

Look for clear conditions tonight, not near as cool as the past couple nights. Thicker clouds will begin moving in tomorrow morning.

Looking Forward:

If you liked the warmer weather we had to today, you’re going to love the 7 day forecast.  The warm up will come with some moisture, however, and this will lead to cloudier conditions the next several days.  It could also lead to some scattered sprinkles Saturday, Sunday and Monday before a cold front arrives Monday night, though, no heavy rain is expected during this time frame.  The arrival of the cold front Monday night will likely lead to the formation of heavier downpours and a few storms over the area and a marginal cool down following the frontal passage.  No severe storms are expected at this time.

No significant cold air is anticipated for the region in the near term either.  This is because the jet stream will remain well to our north throughout the next 7 days, bottling up the truly cold air over parts of the northern plains and Canada.  After looking through some of the long-range models today, it does appear some changes to this pattern of warmth are on the horizon.  And, as we all know, tranquil weather this time of year doesn’t usually last too long in northwest Arkansas…

A Cool Walk
November 28, 2012

I don’t know about you, but I am still trying to burn off those Thanksgiving holiday calories.  Even though I don’t think about it as much in the cooler weather months, a walk in the park always does me a world of good.

Today will be sunny and afternoon highs are going to be getting warmer over the next few days – so a walk in the park might do you a little bit of good as well.

There are a few favorites and their Wednesday afternoon highs listed above.  You’ll still need a jacket or a sweater maybe – but it sure will be a great day to get outside.

   Have a good one!

Welcome South Winds
November 27, 2012

The pattern may become rather stagnant throughout the rest of the week, but at least the winds will turn out of the south.

High pressure tonight will allow the temperatures to fall into the 20s by Wednesday morning.

The high will slide east throughout the afternoon on Wednesday. The winds around the high will turn more southerly. Those winds will remain out of the south throughout the week into the weekend.

Look at the above average temperature trend through Sunday. Highs could be close to 20 degrees above average.

A Warming Trend
November 27, 2012

This Tuesday got off to a chilly start with lows dropping to the 20s and 30s across the area. We’ll have more sunshine for the rest of the day with highs only reaching the upper 40s to the lower 50s.

Despite the cold start today, for the rest of the week highs will begin to warm up as southerly flow returns.  This wind shift will allow warm air to filter in to the region bringing our highs up to the 60s and even mid 70s by the weekend.

On Friday a weak wave will bring a slight chance for showers.  But our limited moisture will keep rain chances pretty slim over the weekend.

Warm Changes….Pattern Stall
November 26, 2012

This time of the year it seems like every couple of days we’re watching cold fronts drop in from the northwest.  Well this week we are looking for anything to generate a weather story; unfortunately, there’s not much action going on.

Take a look at the picture above.  Notice the low just off the Pacific Northwest.  This low will continue to deepen and spin over the next several days.  More energy will move on the western side of the low, and that will move the jetstream winds north by the weekend.

This ridging will allow for temperatures to climb into the 70s by the end of the weekend!  So there is a developing weather story on the horizon, just not a stormy one!

It’s a good thing that cyber sales happen today — because with a 40% chance of showers maybe you’ll be inside a little more and be able to take advantage of those sales.  🙂

Today we’re watching for increasing clouds and a 40% chance of showers.  It looks like the rain should be moving in around or after lunch and sticking around through early evening.  It will be quite windy today with highs in the 50s.

Tonight after the rain moves through, skies will clear and overnight lows will get very cold, very fast — most of them falling into the upper 20s and low 30s.

On Buyers Remorse Tuesday you’ll have sunshine with highs in the lower 50s.

   Have a great day.

A Slight Change
November 25, 2012

We’ve had a nice and calm weekend with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 50s and the 60s.  We’ll see more of the same for the rest of your Sunday with highs reaching the low to mid 60s.  Overnight there’s going to be a change in our pattern thanks to a cold front that will start to push through.

Forecast valid Monday 00Z

This front will bring more clouds into the area overnight.   It will also bring a slight chance for some widely scattered showers on Monday.  In the wake of this front lows early on Tuesday morning will drop to the upper 20s and the mid 30s.

For the rest of the week our forecast will be calm with partly cloudy skies and highs reaching the upper 60s.

Wonderful Weekend
November 24, 2012

Tired of all the early holiday hustle and bustle?  Why not enjoy some quieter time outdoors?

For Saturday we’ll be looking for mostly sunny skies.  It will be a great afternoon for a walk or a bike ride.  Highs will be in the lower 50s for NW Arkansas and mid 50s for the River Valley.

On Sunday we’ll have sunny skies early, then partly cloudy skies for your Sunday afternoon.  Highs will be warmer.  Both NW Arkansas and the River Valley will be in the 60s.

The next chance of rain rolls in on Monday.

   Have a great weekend.
