Updated Drought Monitor

Click on each image for a more detailed picture….

Well even after the rainfall over the last several days, drought conditions are still holding tough across Arkansas and Oklahoma.  Arkansas is in really bad shape compared to Oklahoma; close to 70% of the state is reporting an extreme drought.

I want to explain the differences between the classifications.

MODERATE

Some damage to crops, pastures; streams, reservoirs, or wells low, some water shortages developing or imminent; voluntary water-use restrictions requested

SEVERE

Crop or pasture losses likely;  water shortages common; water restrictions imposed

EXTREME

Major crop/pasture losses;  widespread water shortages or restrictions

Unless we get major rainfall, the extreme drought conditions will likely persist!
