Northwest/North Central – Sumac, Virginia Creeper, dogwood and sassafras are all just beginning to show a hint of early fall color today in the Ozarks. The Buffalo River area is still green, with just a hint of yellow showing from the black walnut and other varieties. This region is mostly green. There are reports of some pretty yellows and oranges around the Leslie area. Predicted peak of color: Late October.
Central Arkansas/Ouachita Mountains – Early signs are just beginning to show but the region is still very green. In the Hot Springs Village area Blackgum are showing a hint of yellow. Predicted peak of color: Late October/Early November.
Southern/Eastern Arkansas – Little change is visible this week. Predicted peak of color: Early to Mid November.
Comments: Motorists attending the 26th Annual King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena-West Helena and 48th Annual Wiederkehr Village Weinfest in Wiederkehr Village this weekend will see some hints of color in early-changing understory foliage. Another week will bring more fall color development to the northern third of Arkansas. Hints of autumn are easy to see but hardwoods are still predominantly green.
